Pinterest came into existence with only one aim; to provide its users the ideas and inspiration that they would desire for in their everyday life. Hence, moving on to make the experience even better, analysis from the development side suggests that the company is working on a “Today” feed, which might just be make exploring the best-handpicked trends easier for users.
This additional feature has first been spotted by Jane Manchun Wong, who is known already known for reverse-engineering apps to identify hidden features and security vulnerabilities. According to her most recent tweet, there is a screenshot of Today feed from Pinterest showing how it might be based on best-handpicked trends from around the world, while giving the user the chance to gather the right inspiration.
Zooming into the screenshot, you can see boards based on a large variety ranging from Best of Sundance 2020 to Antique Restoration and Ceramic Lamps, etc. This together hints of a much-needed change and variety that can help a lot of Pinterest users and even non-users in looking out for things they always want from the platform.
Although the exploration-based trends does sound like going the Instagram way but in the end, Pinterest always has been the leader when it comes to providing user unique ideas in the DIY category or things like interior design. So, this move definitely has the potential to increase engagement in a number of ways.
The current development also seems to be a decent response to two of the major challenges that Pinterest has on its hands already as the platform is trying hard to improve its average revenue per user and reach more global audiences.
