Facebook does not have much positive public repute and that is the reason its public relations team had to introduce chatbot, powered by artificial intelligence, to allow its employees to respond to criticism from family during the Thanksgiving holidays.
According to the New York Times report, a tool called “Liam Bot” will help employees to respond back to the difficult conversations about the controversies of the platform.
The tool was first tested in spring and was then introduced a little before the US Thanksgiving holiday. The public relations team of the company writes the answers in accordance with the public statements of its executive team members about free speech, election modeling etc.
Like if the hate speech on the platform is questioned, the chatbot will respond with existing prompts like content is being monitored by more moderators now or that the regulation is important to deal with such issues. Links of relevant blog posts of Facebook, FAQs and various guides are often linked by the bot.
Over the last few years, Facebook has been part of various controversies and faced much crisis. It all started with misinformation tools in the 2016 election, Cambridge Analytica data privacy scandal and the recently the political ad policy. The mishandled of the controversies has raised issues in recruiting new employees.
After the radical transparency approach by Facebook with its employees, there have been several personal leakages of conversations. Like in October, one of the news agencies revealed the audio and transcripts of the Q&A sessions with Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook. It disclosed many secrets and personal opinion of Zuckerberg about various topics like the stance of Sen Elizabeth Warren about regulating the Big Tech. all this has raised a big question about the morality of the Facebook employees.
Facebook is now technically handling the situation by introducing the AI chatbot. Facebook’s spokesperson said their employees often ask about how they should respond to the ongoing controversies, especially during the holidays. The company has made it easier for all by putting the answers in the chatbot.
