Over the course of its history YouTube has relied on content creators that are putting up their hard work on the platform in order to sustain its growth. After all, a big part of the reason why so many people use YouTube is because of the fact that it is home to such a vast array of content that you can use to entertain yourself, and since so many users come to the platform specifically for this content YouTube has been trying to figure out a lot of new ways to help creators and influencers earn as much money as possible.
One of the new ways that YouTube is looking into involves paid memberships for channels. Basically if you pay a monthly fee towards a channel that you love you would be able to access exclusive, hidden and higher quality content from that channel, content that would be provided to subscribers at the discretion of the content creator.
This is clearly something that gives creators on the platform a lot more options in terms of maximizing their earning potential, but it seems like YouTube will be trying to take the benefits that channel members receive to a whole new level.
A couple of experiments are occurring, and they have to do with the YouTube comment section. During this test, comments from certain channel members are going to be highlighted at the top of the comment section. You will also see a separate option that will allow you to see comments posted exclusively by members of the channel, and the option may also be called “join the conversation with members”.
This is going to give an added layer of exclusivity that channel members would be able to enjoy without alienating the people that can’t afford to pay to become members.

"While we’re in the experiment phase, this is only available on Android to a small percentage of creator channels and their viewers.", explained Jordan from YouTube Team in a Community help page. Adding further, "The design may change over time as we gather feedback.".
