Twitter has had its hands full trying to deal with the plethora of competition that has arisen from the period of time during which it reigned supreme as one of the most popular social media platforms in the world with Facebook being the only platform that was able to give it any real competition or secure a superior position for itself among users. With the rise of Snapchat as well as Facebook beginning to create a monopoly by acquiring several apps and instant messaging platforms, Twitter saw its popularity begin to recede.
It is still a highly popular network but the company behind the platform has been making a lot of changes in order to make itself remain relevant within the current social media climate. One thing that has become a lot more popular in recent times is instant messaging. While Twitter has always offered direct messaging, this was not a priority for its developers for quite some time and as a result of this fact the direct messaging feature lacked a few functionalists that ended up making it inferior to the options offered by Twitter’s competitors.
One feature that has been lacking in the micro-blogging app is the ability to search through DMs. This is going to change now, however, since Twitter is introducing a search feature that would allow you to look for old messages. However, it's still not clear that how far into the chat history we can go, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. Still, Twitter needs to kick things into high gear if it wants to remain competitive in a social media race that has been leaving it in the dust for quite some time now.
