One big problem with the manner in which social media tends to function has a lot to do with the fact that there are a lot of fakers out there who are pretending to be something that they are not, and the fact of the matter is that social media platforms need to do something to address this otherwise it will be quite unlikely that they would be in a position to actually ensure that people are able to use their site as much as they want without having to worry about who to trust.
Facebook created the grey verification tick for small businesses, brands and other such enterprises, but on October 28th this feature will no longer be available for pages. While some people are going to be up in arms about the removal of this badge which has allowed a lot of smaller organizations and businesses to set themselves apart from any copycats that might be looking to steal their thunder, Facebook’s reasoning behind the removal of this feature is that most users that see this tick don’t really know what it means.
This means that the tick mark is not having the desired impact on users, thereby making it necessary for Facebook to make a few changes in this regard. The important thing to remember is that Facebook has announced that it will be looking into alternative ways in which businesses and organizations can mark their pages as authentic, although we will have to wait and see what these alternatives are.
It should be noted that the blue ticks that are used by celebrities, politicians and other individuals are still going to be a part of the platform, and it seems unlikely that they will be going away anytime soon.
