After the founders of Instagram resigned from their position, Facebook is working on ways to integrate the photo-sharing app with its flagship social network. It has already added the brand name next to Instagram and is working on ways to unify both the messaging platforms together.
According to news, Facebook has also started working on ways to syndicated Instagram’s IGTV video to Facebook Watch. This was initially reported by tech blogger Jane Manchun Wong who shared in her tweet that Instagram might be working on a feature that would allow users to post their IGTV content on both – Facebook and Instagram.
Wong says that the feature is still in its testing phase and may take some time to reach our devices.
However, when the feature does roll out, it is anticipated that more video creators will use the IGTV to increase their visibility on both the platforms. As a result, the IGTV will get more exposure – something that it has lacked since Instagram made it a standalone video app.
IGTV was Facebook’s answer to TikTok and Snapchat where users could interact with their audience through video content. Users could also view the IGTV videos from their Instagram app as well as the separate IGTV app.
But IGTV never made it big like its competitors. In fact, the video app was often filled with poor quality video that was often imported from other sources. It has also struggled to rise on the charts of the App Store and as of today, the IGTV ranks on number 159 in the Photo & Video category on the app store while it remains unranked in the overall top charts.
Besides enabling the new feature, developers at Instagram are also working on improvements on the IGTV app that would hopefully address some of the creator’s concerns.
When contacted, Facebook refused to comment on the possible syndication. Until an official announcement, all we can do is wait for the merger to happen.
