The video game industry is a multi-billion dollar business, and according to a study by Newzoo, the company that makes the most money from video games is Tencent, a Chinese juggernaut that earned around $20 billion dollars from video games last year which is the result of them acquiring so many different video game creators and companies over the past year.
Other tech giants that have earned a surprising amount of money from video games include Sony and Apple. Apple earned about $9.5 billion dollars from video games last year. Other companies in this list are not quite as surprising as Apple. Microsoft, producer of one the most popular video game consoles in the world the Xbox, earned just shy of $9.8 billion dollars each over the past year from video games and the like. However, Microsoft was outperformed by its competitor Sony, creator of the PlayStation, who earned over $14 billion dollars from video games last year.
Google is also a big earner when it comes to video games, earning six and a half billion dollars from the industry over the past year. Household gaming names such as Activision, Nintendo, and EA are also big earners, with Activision earning almost seven billion and Nintendo and EA earning 4.3 and 5.3 billion dollars respectively, showing that there is quite a bit of money to be earned through the creation and sale of video games on the open market.
