Facebook is one of the biggest companies in the world, and Mark Zuckerberg’s meteoric rise to becoming one of the richest people in the world has become legendary. However, as reported by Bloomberg, a poll conducted back in 2017 seemed to indicate that public opinion considered Mr. Zuckerberg to be a former innovator with the likes of Bill Gates. The term former innovator in this context refers to someone that once pushed the boundaries of where tech could go but has now been replaced by a new generation of innovators that are making waves.
Current innovators, according to this poll, were people like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, innovators who were perceived to currently be changing the way we interact with the tech around us. It is understandable why public opinion of Zuckerberg is not quite as flattering as he would have liked it to be. Facebook has become a monolith of social media but it has been marred by quite a bit of controversy. While Bezos and Musk have also had their fair share of controversies, their widely publicized successes such as Bezos crossing the $100 billion personal wealth milestone and Musk’s largely successful initial forays into space exploration have managed to sway public opinion more or less in his favor.
Reportedly, Mark Zuckerberg is baffled that this is what the public thinks of him, something that indicates that he may be living in a bit of a bubble that is somewhat removed from reality. Facebook is struggling to prove to people that it is a company that can be trusted, and this public perception is just going to add to the social media juggernaut’s current woes.
