India-based T-Series became the first YouTube channel to reach more than 100 million subscribers after months of battling for the top position.
YouTube sent out a congratulatory message to T-Series via Twitter, telling the channel that a new trophy is on its way to celebrate the achievement. Just like the Play Buttons, YouTube is handing out trophies to the channels that reach 1 or 10 million subscribers.
The Bollywood channel also took pride in their accomplishment and thanked the fans who helped them reach this milestone.
The race to the top between T-Series and Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg has been going on for months. During the process, both the channels grew millions of subscribers and also gave T-Series global recognition.
However, PewDiePie ended the battle last month and addressed its fan to stop antagonizing the opposing channel. The message by YouTube creator came just one month after the shooting incident in Churchill, New Zealand that left 51 people dead.
Interestingly, the shooter used the phrase, “Subscribe to PewDiePie” prior to entering the mosque. Although Kjellberg condemned the act, he continued to poke fun at the popular phrase and even released a video containing harmful language.
The battle for the world’s best YouTube channel between the two creators started in September 2018 and ran for more than six months. In fact, it became one of the most trending topics on YouTube and several channels ran trackers of each channel’s subscribers in real time.
Initially, it was anticipated that the PewDiePie will reach the 100 million subscribers threshold before T-Series. However, T-Series managed to surpass its record much to the dismay of PewDiePie’s fans.
As of yet, Kjellberg “PewDiePie” has been unavailable for comment on T-Series record-breaking triumph.
