Researchers at AV-Tests conducted a series of tests to compare the top anti-virus available in the market that provides best services on Microsoft Windows 10 devices.
Five different security products that passed the March/April 2019 tests included Bitdefender, F-Secure, Kaspersky Lab, McAfee, and Symantec.
Three tests to analyze protection, performance and usability were carried out in which each antivirus solution scored 18, 6 points each in protection, performance, and usability.
Other 6 products developed by AhnLab, Avast, AVG, Avira, Microsoft, and VIPR Security managed to score 17.5, losing 0.5 in one of the three tests.
PC Pitstop PC Matic scored the lowest of all the security products tested, 6 points for protection, 6 for performance but for usability it scored only 3.5, in total it scored 15.5 points.
Windows Defender a built-in utility by Microsoft proved to be the top antivirus of all, scoring 17.5 points, which scored 6 for protection, 5.5 for performance and 6 points for its usability.
For all the Windows 10 devices, Windows Defender is recommended the most, which is installed by default on all the versions of the operating system. Just make sure it's up to date.
100% protection was provided by Windows Defender in March and April tests from 0-day malware attacks, with an industry average of 99.3% and against new samples identified in last month, with an industry average of 100%.
No fake warnings or blocks were generated by it while browsing online, however, one of the legitimate application was wrongly detected as malware when the system was scanned. The industry average for such warnings is 3 according to AV-TEST.
Whereas, no fake positives were sent by Windows Defender when a legitimate software was installed or used.
