YouTube Rewind is the platform’s annual look back over the year. It is supposed to be a nostalgic moment that everyone can share, something that would allow you to ponder over how the year went as we enter a whole new year. However, this year’s Rewind has not had the impact that YouTube was probably expecting. In fact, this year’s YouTube Rewind has become the second most disliked video in the platform’s history, with over eight million dislikes as of right now.
There is a pretty clear reason for YouTube users not liking this video. The reason is the fact that it does not have any of the platforms biggest stars. From PewDiePie to Shane Dawson, Philip DeFranco to the Logan Brothers, none of the people that make the platform what it is seem to be celebrated in this video. Instead we see people like Will Smith and Tyler Blevins, people that really have nothing to do with the platform.
Overall, YouTube seems to constantly be at war with its users. It’s high time that it starts to take these users more seriously.

YouTube’s reason for not including these big platform stars is also easy to guess. All of them were involved in some kind of drama or controversy over the past year, and YouTube probably does not want that controversy making its way to the Rewind video. However, a lot of people are claiming that YouTube is simply trying to hide the side of itself that makes it so great. Users love YouTube content creators, and YouTube adding big movie stars to the Rewind video seems incredibly disingenuous.
