Once upon a time, Google Maps was just a simple tool to get help regarding the routes. But, now it is a full package equipped with various advanced tools. Now you can call a business directly from Google Maps. You can share your location with the family and a bunch of more useful tools. Google added another useful tool in the arsenal as that is supposed to be inspired from its bigger competitor, Facebook.
Now you can follow any business within Maps and get updates and news similarly you follow a business page on Facebook. According to Google, new businesses will be able to list them in the Maps before they open so they can make potential customers. This feature is going to be launched soon, said Paul Cole, the Google Maps Project Manager. The businesses would be able to list them three months prior to their opening and will be visible to the public.
This feature will be available on Android initially in some limited markets and will be expanded to other markets over the time. Also, there are already 150 million places added on Google Maps and the new Follow feature will be enabled for them so the users could find them.

"Those using Google Maps for Android can now follow places right from the app. Rolling out now, just search for that coffee shop you love or that clothing store you’ve been meaning to pop into and tap the “Follow” button. Once you’ve followed places, news from them—like events, offers and other updates—will appear in the For you tab (where available, with more countries coming soon!).", said Google in a blog post.
