WhatsApp has taken upon itself to formally inform all its users that according to a new agreement with Google, the platform's backups are no longer going to count against Google's own storage quota.
Up till now, WhatsApp offered a very limited storage data for backup. This won't be the case after the 12th of the upcoming November, after which backups, which haven't been manually updated will be permanently removed from Storage. Therefore, if users require backup, they will have to do it manually before the aforementioned date. Obviously one would require an activated Google account to access and update backups.
Also, the messages stored in Google Drive will not have an end-to-end encryption.
