To curb the menace of misinformation spread by YouTube, the Google-owned platform has finally decided to link videos to Wikipedia and some other ‘fact-based’ pages which are about conspiracy theories. The development was proclaimed by the CEO of YouTube Susan Wojcicki at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.
The decision was taken after YouTube came under fire for pushing divisive content besides other conspiracy theories. According to Susan, the conspiracy videos will come along with text boxes which will be labeled as ‘information cues’. Ultimately, it will take the user to third-party source.
YouTube is not a typical media organization. Therefore, it holds less responsibility regarding the content which is published on the site.
