According to the New York Times and several other reports, Cambridge Analytica (voter profiling firm, also worked for President Trump’s 2016 election campaign) managed to get the illegal access of as many as whopping 50 million Facebook accounts without notifying or taking consent from the users.
The reports further revealed that it was allegedly done for the 2014 mid-term elections as the firm secured a massive investment of $15 million. Moreover, $1 million was spent to get the illegal access of 50 million Facebook accounts.
The mistreatment of Facebook accounts is considered as one of the biggest data leaks in the history of Facebook. The social media giant has refrained to comment on the subject. However, the firm has suspended the Facebook accounts of Cambridge Analytica, Wylie and Kogan.
We are waiting for an official word from Facebook whether the data of the users was actually compromised.
