Using a data-set of more than 160,000 Instagram images tagged with hashtag #selfie, Dan Zarrella (a social media scientist) studied the science of selfies and what leads to more (or fewer) likes.
Here's what he found:
Dan analyzed the dominant colors in the images and found that cooler blues and greens were correlated with more likes than warmer reds, yellows, oranges and pinks.
He also found that Willow and Normal photos (No filter) were the most liked, followed by high contrast and saturation filters.
On the flip side of the coin, the least-liked tag was #Drunk. Selfies tagged with #drunk saw a 40 percent lower like rate than those without the tag.
